Building Schools For The Future Programme (BSF)
Consultation Process

Don’t believe everything that you hear or see in the news. It is not correct to say that BRJ is closing:- The proposal is to move BRJ to be part of a much bigger school and Sixth Form, to be supported by both the Catholic and Anglican Churches. Click HERE to learn more.

BRJ is the only Catholic secondary comprehensive in Shropshire serving students from Telford & Wrekin and across the county. In addition, as the only maintained comprehensive school in the area to have a Sixth form, we are able to offer a sound education and excellent pastoral care from the age of 11 to 18.

Be Cool Be Safe

Following their local heat at Madeley Academy on March 13th, a group of BRJ students successfully reached the final of the Be Cool Be Safe Quiz, organised by Charlie Cartwright from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The final was held at Telford Central Fire Station with 9 schools from across Shropshire taking part.

Pictured here with the CHE Coordinator Mrs Adams and the Director of 6th Form Mrs Grainger are team members Sean Radburn, Eleanor Taylor, Georgia Mason and Sophie Kirby along with reserves and supporters Mary-Kate Torri, Josh Davies, Hayden Hicks and India Wade Kelly, all representatives from each tutor group in Year 7.

The main focus was on staying safe and being aware of potential fire hazards, which all of Year 7 have been studying in CHE lessons. The final consisted of five rounds, including “Get your Kit On!” and a general knowledge quiz.

BRJ came 5th and each student received a medal at the end before we all enjoyed a buffet lunch at the Fire Station. It was an enjoyable event and we look forward to being involved in this again next year.

The New IT TechLab Website Goes Live

The new IT TechLab website (www.ittechlab.co.uk) is now live. The site is design to showcase the training available at the College and to also link technicians, staff and students to the training facilities, including the Microsoft Academy. Take the time to take a LOOK. Parts of the website are still under construction but will be available shortly.

The Diary of Anne Frank Theatre Visit

The coach trip to Wolverhampton was what you’d expect: laughter, chatting and sweets (sour fruit pastels – wow!). We reached the theatre, filed into our seats and waited. We shared packets of chocolate, talked amongst ourselves and generally had a good time. Then the lights dimmed, and the whole theatre began to cheer – by this time, our excitement had peaked. The play was really quite emotional, by the end we really did care about what was happening to Anne Frank, and it definitely gave us an insight as to what had happened to her.

At the beginning of the play rain falls across the stage and a murky gloom draws theatre-goers in with an air of impending doom as a voice began read from the beginning of Anne’s diary. When the actors and actresses came on stage they really showed us how it was to live in fear and silence while the rest of their faith was eliminated. How it was to not go outside, to not know what was going on in the outside world and not knowing if and when it would end. I think that this play really showed what it was like to be Jewish during the Second World War.

Mock Trial Competition Saturday 10 March 2012

Year 9 students from Blessed Robert Johnson joined more than 150 students from across Shropshire to take part in the Mock Trial Competition.  The trial took place at Telford Magistrates Court.  Pupils filled the roles of magistrates, lawyers, witnesses and defendant.  The trial was based on a specially written criminal case and was organised by the Citizenship Foundation.  The trial was an excellent opportunity for students to see how the criminal justice system worked.  It also provided students with the opportunity to have an experience of public speaking.  Many of the students involved really increased their own personal self-confidence.  Blessed Robert Johnson was helped in its preparations by Mr Alex Beyer JP and Mr Stephen Scully solicitor, Crime Department for Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors.

Microsoft Training Comes to BRJ College

BRJ registered as a Microsoft IT Academy in August 2011 and after many months of working within the units, we are now offering MSITA training to students and staff. The program allows students to access over 300 Microsoft courses on everything from a beginners guide to Installing Windows 7, to complex Windows Server 2008 administration and configuration. Each course is accompanied by an Official Microsoft Certificate of Completion. Any students who are interested in enrolling in the system need to contact Mr Whiting in the IT Tech Lab.

BRJ Students Take To The Slopes

The staff and students from BRJ arrived safely at their Snow Boarding resort in Austria on Saturday evening at the end of a 25 hour coach Journey. After a well-deserved rest, they arose bright and early the following morning ready to take to the slopes. All are enjoying themselves and the weather is perfect.
