Duke of Edinburgh Award July News Letter
From Saturday 3rd to Tuesday 6th July, some of our plucky Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award groups successfully completed their Assessment in the Wilds of the Snowdonia National Park. It was a difficult four days and three nights camping, especially as the students had to endure one nights wild camping, with none of the ‘luxuries’ that you normally find on a campsite.
All of the students did really well in completing the expedition which was over 55 kilometres. They started off just outside the Welsh town of Bangor and zigzagged their way across farmland and wild country, through bracken and forests, but more importantly over mountains to reach their goal a few miles outside Betws-y-Coed. All of them had to carry all of the equipment, food and necessities that they would need for the whole trip. All of the students (and the two staff supervising) looked absolutely knackered on Tuesday evening when they returned to college.
A big thank you must go out to Mr Doran and Dr Bell for voluntarily giving up their time, including the whole weekend and many evening throughout the year, to help the students plan and accomplish the expedition and gain their Award.
