The Geography Department is proud to have 2 specialist Geography Teachers.
Mr. High is Head of the Department who has been teaching for 11 years, having lived in the USA, Africa and worked in industry prior to turning to teaching.
Miss Hancher joined BRJ in 2006 having been a solicitor before turning to teaching.
The Department enjoys great popularity within the school and benefits from lessons which are almost entirely accessible digitally as well as ‘Live’. It prides itself on GCSE results and strong uptake at Sixth Form. As a member of the Shropshire Geographical Assosciation, our students are regularly invited to Shrewsbury School to attend lectures there.
Fieldwork is a key aspect of life in the Geography Department, be it paddling in rivers, looking at villages around Wellington, tourism in Ironbridge, or going down lead mines in the Stiperstones.
The Department is at the forefront of digital learning, students benefiting from the creation of movies to illustrate Geographical points, references to Google Earth and we are competing in the recent climate challenge competition about global warming through the Wmnet website. Sustainability is at the forefront of our thoughts as we head into the 21st Century and out next challenge is to provide a basis for the college to become more sustainable with wind power projects and cycling schemes in the pipeline.
