Magistrates Court Mock Trial Competition Saturday 13 March 2010
Year 9 students attended a Mock Trial Competition on Saturday 13 March at the Telford Courts. This is a highly prestigious competition organised by the Citizenship Foundation. Its purpose is to show how important the Magistrates Courts are to our legal system and to give students a hands-on experience of how the courts operate.
Students gave up lunch times and after schools in order to prepare for their roles in the trial of ‘Chris Bishop’. The students were supported in their preparation by two J.Ps Alex Beyer and Ray Peel. Ex students Rita and Sylvia Salem also supported the students. Rita was a key player in last year’s Crown Court competition and is now studying for a degree in Law at Derby University.
The day was a great success and all students really worked hard. The school was awarded the runners up prize and a £50 book token. Georg Birnbaum was awarded the prize for best court performer from BRJ and given a trophy and a £25 book token. Prizes were awarded by Mrs Anna Turner JP, The High Sheriff of Shropshire.
I would like to say how proud I am of the students and all of their hard work.
