Boscobel House The History Department Ran its annual trip to the Civil War re-enactment Camp at Boscobel House in June. 30 eager Year 8 students jumped at the opportunity to find out what life was like for the soldiers and civilians during the Civil War. They were able to experience many different aspects of like by visiting the different areas of the camp. They were also able to train as a Pike man and received a certificate to show they had qualified. Here are what a couple of the students thought about the trip: “In the camp there were lots of tents. Each tent had a different job in it. There was a pub, a kitchen, an armoury and weaponry and the colonels’ tent. At the weaponry they taught us how to load a musket. They then fired them and this was very loud. At the Armoury someone showed us about the armour and told us how it worked they also put one of the students in the armour. At the end we got to use pikes and were showed how to attack with them. This was really good and I enjoyed this most out of the morning.” “Boscobel house was a very enjoyable experience. We got to see what life was like for adults and children in the rough conditions. I was amazed by the sites that I saw and how big the camp was and would have been in the days of the civil war. I thought that the day was a great experience and really enjoyed the things that we got to do during the day.”
