Dear Parents,

As you know we were recently visited by an inspection team from Ofsted and they have given us a very positive report. This is a big lift for everyone connected with the college -staff, students, parents and governors- who have worked hard to bring about these changes.

So, many thanks to everyone concerned for their incredible help and support

A copy of the report can be downloaded HERE. If you would like a paper copy please contact the college office.

The inspection team recognised that the overall picture was one of “a college that is improving in vital areas” and yet remains “a cohesive and harmonious community.” The inspectors also saw that we have ‘improved the quality of teaching and learning’, leading to much improved results in 2010.

Other important points include:

  • More challenging targets are being set for students and marking consistently gives students good feedback and the opportunity to respond.
  • Successful strategies for raising boys’ attainment
(a special ‘thank-you’ for the parents’ working group that helped with this)
  • Better provision for students with special educational needs who progress ‘particularly well’, and for students for whom English is an additional language.
  • ‘Students develop good workplace skills.’

The inspectors spent several sessions to talking to our students and concluded that our care, guidance and support as good and acknowledged how the Gospel values are ‘effectively promoted’, resulting in a ‘well-established caring ethos’. Our Sixth Form students also told the team how pleased they were with the support offered by the college staff, especially in the quality of the advice that was instrumental in ‘many gaining access to the universities of their choice.’.

Other good news includes:

  • Being named in the BBC’s list of top 100 ‘Most Improved Schools’. (For the full story click here) .
  • Being invited to contribute to a national conference on Gifted and Talented education.
  • Securing a £20,000 grant to buy a state-of-the-art 3D scanner and milling machine for our Product design department.
  • Breaking news: Gemma Berrow of year 11 has just been elected as the United Kingdom Youth Parliament representative for Telford & Wrekin. Well done to Gemma and more to follow.

Once again, many thanks to everyone connected with the college for their continued help.

Yours sincerely,

Robert Hall
